Stress is unavoidable. We all have those things on our mind that keep us up at night. Some of us are better at handling our stress than others, but that doesn’t mean those people aren’t affected by it. As a parent, it can be hard to find time for yourself to ease some of the tension within your mind and body. However, in this article, we provide some quick and easy, yet effective ways to handle stress like the boss you are!

1. Breathe
It’s something so simple, yet super effective–lowering your heart-rate and putting your mind a little more at ease.
2. Do just one thing on your list
If you are overwhelmed by all the responsibilities you have for the day, tell yourself you will complete just one of those goals. Know that it’s okay to be imperfect at times, and that not everything needs a deadline.
3. Take a walk
Even if it’s just around the block! Getting some fresh air might help you relax, even if it’s not for a long period of time.
4. Write your feelings down
Keep a journal of all the times you feel overwhelmed or full of anxiety. Sometimes, writing those feelings down can help you understand more deeply why you’re feeling that way–which can lead to problem-solving and more rational thinking.

5. Make a list of things you are grateful for
Sometimes, we’re so busy, we forget that we have so much to be thankful for in our lives. It’s important to take these moments to look at our lives in a broader sense.
6. Stretch
Stretching can help you not only feel better mentally, but also physically! We tend to carry our stress in certain areas of the body (neck, shoulders, back), so try and focus on those areas where you feel more tension.

7. Talk to someone you trust
A new perspective from someone that cares about you could help put your mind at ease. We tend to overdramatize our problems, so listening to someone else’s thoughts on your issues may lead you to realize that they aren’t so bad after all.
8. Put on music
A favorite song can definitely turn your entire mood around in a heartbeat. And a little dancing never hurts!
9. Wash your hands and face
When overwhelmed at times, we tend to lose focus and feel scattered. Wash away the stress. It will refresh you and wake you up.
10. Do a quick workout
Exercise is proven to be one of the most efficient ways to reduce stress. A quick little workout will release some endorphins and make you feel more accomplished.

11. Eat a healthy snack
Find something to munch on. Carrot sticks, or an apple. A small bag of nuts. Don’t have anything healthy? Just one piece of chocolate is okay.
12. Take a break to do something that makes you happy
Chores can wait. What’s most important is your well-being and happiness. Don’t forget to take care of yourself and do the things that are important to you!
